Sheehan and Barry have been involved in phased restoration and refurbishment projects at Castletown House for many years, resulting in David Sheehan joining the Board of the Castletown Foundation in 2005.

In recent years we worked on the refurbishment of the Long Gallery and Red Drawing Room, with a focus on restoring the rooms to reflect their original look and feel. The original wall fabric was carefully retained in the Red Drawing Room and where the fabric was missing the original fabric was replicated using the original as a template.

More recently the Lady Kildare room has also been painstakingly restored, reflecting the original use of the room at the time as a Lady’s Boudoir.

Our goal was to carefully restore and reinstate the interior plasterwork, joinery, and decorative schemes, ensuring that the historic details were meticulously preserved.

In addition to the restoration work, we also implemented new mechanical and electrical systems throughout the property to enhance its functionality and convenience while maintaining its original charm.

We were delighted that the project was recognised with the prestigious “Best Restoration of a Private Building” award presented by An Taisce. This award not only recognizes the excellence of our work but also serves as a testament to our commitment to preserving and restoring historic structures.

Our restoration work aimed to preserve the historic charm and character of the residence while providing modern comfortable living spaces for its owners. The result is a harmonious fusion of old and new.

In the Lady Beit Boudoir has had extensive restoration work, including the restoration of the wall paneling and paintwork. The furnishings were carefully conserved and re-upholstered. Notably, the chimney piece, designed by Bossi, was preserved as part of the restoration process. We also re positioned the original satinwood bureau next to the chimney piece, following an illustration in Irish Houses and Castles by Desmond Guinness.
