Our brief was to upgrade this early 19th century building at one of Dublin’s most prominent locations. The works commenced with a complete strip out of the interiors, retaining only the “bones” of the building and the beautiful historic architectural features such as the cantilevered stone staircase, the elaborate internal plasterwork and the brick vaults in the basement. Our concept was to “reveal” these features and to use them to create elegant spaces while making the building suitable for contemporary use.
The entire mechanical and electrical systems were upgraded and rerouted to make them discreet and hidden within floors or in service risers. A new lift was inserted to provide access to all floors. A contemporary extension was added and a raised terrace created to provide “breathing space” to the rear.
